alertoff Corruption Error
Resolving the "Blob Block Buffers Corrupt in Table 'alertoff'" error
| Applies To | Severity | Est. Time | Audience |
| DentiMax PM Server | Critical | 5-10 minutes | All |
Overview
When DentiMax Practice Management is left running overnight, the alertoff table — which
tracks patients whose medical alerts have been suppressed for the day — cannot be properly
cleared when the day rolls over. This corrupts the table and prevents anyone in the office
from logging into DentiMax until it is resolved, producing the following error:
Error: Blob block buffers corrupt in the table alertoff
This article will guide you through safely stopping the DentiMax service, creating a database
backup, repairing the corrupted table, and clearing its contents.
Before You Begin
Confirm the following before proceeding:
1. You have access to the DentiMax Practice Management server computer.
2. DentiMax is closed on all computers in the office, including any error dialogs.
3. You know (or can identify) the location of the DentiMax database folder.
Procedure
Step 1 — Stop the DMSRVR Service
- Close DentiMax on all computers in the office, dismissing any error dialogs that appear.
- On the DentiMax server computer, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- In Task Manager, click the Services tab. Locate the service named DMSRVR, right-
click it, and select Stop.
- Minimize Task Manager — you will need it again later.
Step 2 — Back Up the Database
- Open File Explorer and navigate to the DentiMax data directory, typically located at C:\
dentimaxdata. - Right-click the database folder and select Compress to > ZIP File (Windows 11) or
Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder (Windows 10)
- When prompted to rename the file, append today's date:
- Format: [Database Name] Month.Day.Year
- Example: Tony Tony Chopper DDS 4.7.26
💡TIP
If you are unsure which subfolder is the office database, click into a folder and then
click the "Date Modified" column header to sort files by date. If the most recently
modified files match the last date DentiMax was used, you are in the correct folder.
Folders with a zipper icon are already compressed archives — ignore these.
⚠️CAUTION
Do not proceed to the next step until the ZIP backup has fully completed.
Step 3 — Repair the alertoff Table
-
Open dbsys.exe, located at C:\Program Files\DentiMax\Server.
- In dbsys, click Utilities in the top menu bar, then select Repair Table... from the
dropdown.
- In the Repair Table window, click the Select... button next to the Available Databases
field. Navigate to the DentiMax database folder, select it, and click OK.
- In the Available Tables list, scroll down and select alertoff.
- Check the Force index rebuild checkbox at the bottom of the window, then click
Repair.
- When the repair completes, click OK, then click Close.
Step 4 — Empty the alertoff Table
- Click Utilities again and select Empty Table...

- Confirm that the Available Databases field still shows the correct office database path.
If it does not, click Select... to re-select the correct database. - In the Available Tables list, click alertoff to select it.
- Click Empty. A confirmation prompt will appear showing the filepath of the table to be
emptied.
- Review the filepath carefully. If it does not point to the correct database, click No and
return to Step 3f. If it is correct, click Yes. - Click OK, then close dbsys.
🚨WARNING
The "Empty Table" feature permanently deletes all data within the selected
table. Before clicking Empty, verify that alertoff is the ONLY table selected in the
Available Tables box.

Step 5 — Restart the Service and Verify
- Reopen Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and navigate to the Services tab.
- Right-click DMSRVR and select Start.
- Attempt to log into DentiMax Practice Management on any workstation to confirm the
error is resolved.
Additional Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Resolution |
| Error occurs during the repair or empty step | DMSRVR may not have stopped successfully. Return to Steps 1.2–1.3 and stop the service again. If it will not stop, open the Processes tab in Task Manager, find DMSRVR, and click End Task. |
| alertoff error persists after completing all steps | You likely repaired or emptied the wrong database. Repeat the procedure from Step 3, carefully verifying the database path at each stage. |
